It isn't a stupid question at all, if you're unfamiliar with the Discworld canon it would totally make sense. But actually Pratchett just seems to love the idea of turning the ol' long-lost-prince story on it's head.
Carrot is descended from Ankh-Morpork royalty and was found somewhere in the Ramtops (near Lancre where this is set) but he wasn't born there.
Everyone just loves him because he's Carrot.

@wingz3 well there's soul music in the animations. but theres also hogfarther and going postal and the colour of magic that are terry pratchets but done as a tv releases. but as notebooked said they desided not to animate more as they couldn't get the funds.
