This video describes how to find FREE barrels and build a compost roller, for only a few dollars. Note: for the sake of cost, you must turn the compost yourself, by rolling the barrel along the ground. Perhaps someday I'll build a frame like this http://ow.ly/3g6U

Great Video! I just bit the bullet and bought a couple of plastic trash cans with lids for $9 a piece. :) the only modification they required was holes drilled in them for aereation. I think they will be ok. :)

cool vid, thanks for posting it. u could use some sand paper, an electric sander or a metal file to remove a small portion of material from the door edges to create more clearance.

Good job but same comment as kevin--how do you tumble the composter? A lot of the value of these it seems to me is the ability to roll the unit "in place" that is, in some kind of frame.

The roller doesn't require much space, even without a frame. Roll it one direction, sprinkle the contents, add some more material, roll it back. Works for me!

GREAT video! 5 stars! A handle on the outside of the hatch might make opening it easier, too. =^[.]^=

Great idea, BUT... until I get it onto a frame, a full compost barrel is quite heavy, and while rolling it back and forth in the back yard, the handle would hinder the roll..

I love this... BUT! Is there a frame that it sits or rides on, or is just rolled around the yard...

No frame. At some point I may build a frame, but until then I just roll it.
