Jacob Shafer, ( www.mauitime.com ) on 8/5/2010 follows Wryen Kiwaha's lead from 4/19/2010 in calling incumbent Senator Dan Inouye's Filipino challenger, John Roco, "a joke." John Roco comments how Wryen's posting came out 11 days after Episode 2 of "Roco for Senator" ( on Olelo.org ) discussed ethics and sexual harassment of Inouye's past. Roco also points out how Adam Carolla had just denigrated Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao on 4/5/2010, in a similar way as the ABC Desperate Housewive's episode towards Philippine medical schools. Roco speaks of his cousin Carmelo Roco, and father Manuel Roco, their efforts in the medical community, and finally of how Filipinos are spoken of derogatorily in racial undertones in Hawaii.
Hawaii does overlook and undermine the Filipinos. An example was Charmane Tavares, she didn't even attempt to reach out toward the Filipino community during her re-election campaign. Alan Arakawa did and look who won but unfortunately Charmane was the better candidate. The high schools were worse, national clubs such as Key Club are controlled by the other Asian demographic. I can say that I've been robbed of opportunities because of prejudice over Filipinos during high school.

Hi John, Your story is very inspiring. Although I am not a Hawaii resident, I wish you good luck in your campaign.

i believe philippinese people should clean up their own country before they even think of running anywhere else, no matter how good and successful they had been in a foreign place they will always be a joke in the eyes of everyone as long as their own country is living in poverty and injustice.
