I can totally see your point Hudsucker94. His characters have inane deadpan interactions, and often his jokes are far too dry or far too lame, and his later work (specifically Life Aquatic) suffers from it.

But Anderson inherits that style of writing from films like The Graduate and Harold and Maude. In fact, Anderson's work is rich in film and literature. I know that doesn't make his films accessible/enjoyable to most, but they're substantial.

Anyways, I respect your position, but disagree.

In case you don't know (and I assume you don't) when something or someone is pretentious they think they are the most important person on the earth. Or they think that they have created the greatest thing on the earth, I am guessing this is what you mean by he is pretentious, but where in his work does he even suggest that his films are better than any others? I think you are just saying this to sound cool.
