The Government was defeated on 29th April 2009 over plans to restrict the number of Gurkhas who could settle in the UK. A Liberal Democrat Parliamentary motion was passed with all party support which called on the Government to give Gurkhas an equal right to residence. This video is of Nick Clegg's speech to the Gurkhas outside Parliament after the vote.

  • I am glad that Gordon Brown lost this vote - that is no way to treat such heroes who have fought so bravely for the country!

  • It seems incredible that even with criminals who claim asylum from being returned to their own countries are given priority over people who have supoported Britian for so long. At last some common sense has come - I just wonder what planet our governement is living on! It's like they have completely lost the plot.

  • When will this sad botoxed post-menopausal creature Lumley comprehend Britain should NOT act as a dump for every third world refugee charity case. These people are in fact paid a pension that gives them a good standard of living in their own country. These so called “celebrities” such as Lumley and Redgrave should stick to acting not prostitute themselves through the media to force their extreme unelected left wing views regarding third world immigrant parasites on the British taxpayer

  • @drob1980 I though labour votes outnumbered conservatives and liberal democrats so they had to make a partnership to become the majority.

  • Cameron got cut off the video as soon as he took the mic XD

  • its a disgrace that parliment were actuly debating whether gurkhas shud stay here! of course they shud! how hard can that be 2 work out?

  • the gurkhas and their families are less likely to vote new labour

hamas supporting, jihadi, anti british, sharia wankers will

    its political

I bet all those free tibet anti war trolls will be labelling these men mercenaries and baby killers.pricks

Give they gurkhas the rights they not only deserve but have also EARNED!

  • It is a despicable way to treat our brothers in arms, no matter what regiment you belong too. Its typical of the british goverment. They do the lying and we do the dying. They have been loyal servants to blighty and show them some bleeding gratitude you ungrateful sods. Your Brothers salute you. RESPECT.

  • Gordon Brown was against it due to a misreading of public opinion, he thinks the British public are against immigration (which they largly are) but that negativity isnt relaly put on the Gurkha's since though fought for this country, its just Brown trying to get back up in the polls more than an actual position.
