  • Can the person still talk normally after the surgery? Since less air will go through the vocal chord. I'm a first year medical student... Still ignorant.. =D

  • @lamchuanzheng u are right.. with the normal tube u cannot speak.. but if u use a special tube like fullers, you can speak by closing the external opening

  • I always thought the procedure was a quick one, or is this in a non-emergency situation?

  • @A3neas

this is an elective case.. so was taken considering the illustrative purpose.. in this way.. the steps could be demonstrated so that it will be useful for beginners

  • Gud Video....it helped me in doing tracheostomy...thanx

  • @shahbazfaridi

  • What if there is sudden choking, the surgery takes 10 minutes, patient may die in 4 minutes. How do you handle the emergency situation.?

  • nice video.

  • I had one of these when i was two. I'm now 18 and people still ask me why do i have a scar on my throat :)

  • The patient can also talk with a trach if they have a speaking valve. This is a one way valve that lets the air come in through the trach but exhalation goes through the oro and nasopharynx.

  • @shinoyansari007 Thanks for the reply! =D

  • i wonder how the obturator is used on tracheostomy care procedure..i really find it hard to imagine what i'm reading in my book because i never really had the chance to actually handle a patient with tracheo. when i was having my internship...:)

  • so.....i assume putting a pen thru ur windpipe and removing the contents and breathing thru it doesnt work....? damn :/

  • After the trach was inserted and the anesthetist pulled out the Endotracheal tube there was quite a while before ventilation was attached to the tracheostomy tube. Does anyone know what the typical amount of time is acceptable for them to go with out oxygen? I'm just confused because as a student I have seen different doctors do it a bit differently. thanks
