On 051309 California planted large palm trees at a significant cost to fill freeway planter areas that have had ivy and shrubs for decades. If the State can't meet it's budget, is billions of dollars in the red and is laying off teachers, policemen, fire fighters, and closing hospitals, how can it afford expensive specimen palm trees? The cost of these palm trees is roughly equivalent to a teachers salary for 2 years. Call your congressman.
