For those that are a little fuzzy on the story, I dont blame you as the events in this game are a fraction of a larger story. Max (your brother) has a secret desire to get you (Edward) through the spacial fracture. He invites you to kal-Manora where he can plot against the captain to change the ships course. The spacial fracture is suicide, or so everyone else believes. Max knows that greatness and adventure lies through the portal and he needed Edwards help in order to achieve it.
