With Panama's rich history, biodiversity, and a multi-colorered collage of cultures, understanding what is Panamanian can be a difficult task. Walking through Panama City, you are just as likely to end up in a fabulously gay bar as you are a posh salsa club. Dim sum breakfast is served right next door to tortillas and frijoles. Don't even get me started about religion. Then, head out of the city and into the forested Kuna lowlands or vastly deforested Chiriqui highlands. The class changes are shocking and the beauty is breathtaking.
Our point of entry was this - non-verbal communication. How better to learn about people than by understanding the unwritten history layered in their movement, spatial organization, posture, and gestures. 10 days, one amazing journey into the heart of Panamanian society, and all its diverse forms.
