  • I find it interesting that you used fingers on this jam when Bobby usually used a pick. I know that he occasionally uses his fingers. Was this an example of his "finger style" playing?

  • Bobby can do anything, but you're right, the original was a pick job...

  • very nice playing! it's a pretty hard tune to do, as the speed is kinda fast

  • Thanks - I should be playing it with a pick but I don't use them normally so I tried fingerstyle instead!

  • Just saw some stuff with Bobby Vega on bassplayer(dot)tv. That guy is very funky indeed.

  • +1 - I met him at NAMM and he is a wonderful guy all-round. He squeezes so many tones out of his bass it's incredible.

  • thx jamersonhook !! Another killer bassline !!

  • Awww yeah....this is such a cool bass riff .... love it thanks for posting.

  • @LovelyOnyx

FYI: Larry Graham did NOT play bass on this song. That is Bobby Vega's bassline on that recording. I believe he was 17 when he recorded that with Sly.

  • Nice job. Great Line!

  • Great job, used to play this with my band, I played guitar, yeah you nailed it

  • AWESOME! I have been married to a bass player for over 20 years and he tried playing this bass line, also. It is a very difficult bass line to play because Larry Graham (I think that's Larry) is plucking and rumbling so fast that it's hard to keep up. But, YOU did an excellent job on this! This is a funky cut and I love this song. I must say, you put a great deal of your own "stank" on it! Great job! I'm adding this video to my favorites, so I can show this to my hubby. Thanks 4 posting!

  • awesome bass line. is that a status graphite bass in the background?

  • Cool. Thanks for the response. And you nailed the line by the way. Killer job.
