August 1st through 5th, 2011 fly fishing trip to the south fork of the snake river below Palisades reservoir. Also fished was Bear Creek. Fishermen are Jim M., Tim M., Greg L. and Mark K. The river was still high due to unusually high run off, so the fishing wasn't real good. We caught Brown, Cutthroat, and Rainbow trout, and lots of White Fish. The largest trout, caught by Tim, was a brown that measured 20 inches.
Our guides were Lee Moore and Tim Woodard from South Fork Outfitters. Although I enjoyed our two days of fishing, the catching didn't live up to the hype you hear about the South Fork Of The Snake. I would say you should take the fishing reports you see and hear with a big grain of salt. We caught a few trout each and lots of White Fish. There was only one fish of 20 inches caught. The others ranged from six inches to maybe 17 inches. Our group was grumbling about paying $525, plus tip, a day and not doing as well as two of the group can do on their home waters in Colorado or near by Casper Wyoming on the Platte.
