@tommiespain free markets allow poor people to use their labor to get ahead, first of Pinochet regime wasn't something good, a dictatorship is socialism at its core, but he did free up trade and he was heavily influenced by the Chicago school of economic thought, which is a reason why Chile thrives today. Minimum wage, tariffs, quotas, etc. make it so poor people consume less and have less opportunity for work, that’s why fee market countries have higher standards of living...hence poor better

@zac1bar83 How on earth do free markets help the poor? The poor were doing great under Allende's government in Chile. Then, Allende was murdered in his burning palace. Then, Pinochet comes in with the free market and a few hundred thousand people were murdered and imprisoned...so please clarify your point.

yeah the big problem with unions protectionism is that it hurts poor people, as does socialism and communism, free markets helps the poor more than anything else
