My 2002 Camry 2.4 I4, 4-Speed Auto, LE model camry. Just a video to show my speedometer and open to suggestions. I unhooked the ground to the battery for a couple minutes to install my head unit and system in the trunk. When i went to Re-attach the ground, there was a slight spark which would be normal(Doors were open I believe), tightened up the bolt/clamp. Then went back in the car to start it and noticed the tach and speedo were maxxed out, Tach was past 7k and speedo@ well over 140mph. I started it and the tachometer returned to the correct reading , but the speedometer never recovered. Also the idle of the car at first was very low, almost to the point of cutting off, then after a couple drives the tach returned to the normal 1k or so when it was at 400 maybe as low as 300 sometimes. Its been about 3 weeks and the speedo wont return to normal, Cruise control works fine which indicates the computer is reading a correct speed just not showing it? Suggestions i got off google say that it should return to normal within 20-30 miles, but ive probably put about 400 or so since the installation.(GPS has an accurate speedo luckily). Any suggestions? I've tried redoing it a couple times to see if it would reset back with no avail.

  • it might have been a knocked speedo fuse.

    is it still working today?

  • @The420Guru

Yeah, never happened again. But I haven't had to disconnect the battery since.

  • If anyone gives a shit, it just started working one day going 70 down the highway, I look down and its working. So i dunno, weird shit.

  • is there anything you can do in that car to make a gauge sweep to see if it moves at all when the rest of the gauges work?

  • I was curious that myself but I dont no of any way personally, Chrysler/Mopar cars all you have to do is hold the trip reset and cycle the key.

  • your gauge cluster looks to be malfunctioning at the time the problem occurred. if it never happens again, dont worry about it, if it does , you will need to gauge cluster assy
