We stopped by Charvel's booth at Summer NAMM to check out their new USA production line of electric guitars. The three new guitars include the So-Cal Style 1, and San Dimas Styles 1 & 2 (aka "The Excellent Adventure" and "The Bogus Journey," respectively).

Britton got his hands one one, and we got to hear how the San Dimas's Seymour Duncan's (A JB and a '59) sounded through an EHV half-stack, the way they're meant to sound. See more on Gearwire.com.

  • Whats not to like about these axes, they sound like a Charvel, play like one and they are probably the best bargain I`ve come across in a long time. Bearing in mind I have 2 Custom shop Charvels at home and they might not match that quality, but at least they will be better than any other superstrat on the market for that sort of price.

Next batch of colours should include White on the So-Cal 1, So it looks like a Jake E Lee style Charvel.

  • I thought he seemed quite nice...

  • Whats the differance between the Usa made and the Japanese made?

  • @Mr0ro

I got my San Dimas for less than an identical Bolt Plus. Plus I got things that Carvin doesn't do like a much better oil finish, compound radius fretboard, my preferred single volume knob, non-recessed floyd, MUCH better pickups, and a piece of alder which was much more resonant than any Carvin. I can play anything from Randy Rhoads to the Joe Pass stuff I've been working on lately. Carvins are for cheap asses who don't care about soul or personality in a guitar, just options

The style 2 "Tele" body shape is actually darker sounding because it is bigger and the wood resonates differently. I get plenty of twang with my Style 1 san dimas, especially in the middle position with the 2 inner coils.

When I was buying a guitar, I mulled over whether to buy a new Carvin or a San Dimas. I played many Carvins, they're nice, but they have no soul, no personality. Not even the top of the line DC400 played through a Carvin Legacy amp sounded right to me. I played a LOT, the Bolt, DC135, H2, HF2, DC400, DC127, I tried a lot. The very second I felt a Charvel, it felt right. The sound, oh my god. Way Hotter, ballsier, and even more versatile.

  • @joeldification san dimas for rock and the so cal for metal. there both awesome but i'd go with the so cal

  • which one is better so cal , san dimas or wild card plzzzzzzzz help?

  • oohhh that intro music...

  • @VnaldersYourMan have you purchaced a guitar from carvin before? if you havent I understand why your asking me that.

  • @Mr0ro They're made in the US and they're only one grand. How is that overpriced?

  • charvel has always been overpriced for what they are and how they are made
