THE BIG FINISH!

Facing the Prospect of Not Recovering, Returning to Work [or not], Humor, Faith, and Fitness

Credits: Special Thanks, Resources, and People

This video, '"You Look Great!" - Inside a Traumatic Brain Injury', tells the story of trying to recover from an injury that in some ways is invisible to the outside world. My hope is that fellow sufferers find comfort that they are not alone in their injury, and that they learn ways of describing what they're going through to their families, friends, and caregivers.

  • hey john i'm curious. did u experience a loss of consciousness or post traumatic amnesia after the accident? what were your immediate symptoms after the accident? also did you experience insomnia?

  • @v8americanpower1 Hi there! No, I didn't lose consciousness, nor did I have any amnesia OR insomnia. If you give me your email I will send you a chapter from the book I've just finished. It describes in detail what the first week and month were like for me. You can contact me at mildTBI@gmail.com

  • John,

Thanks to you and Chris for putting together such great videos! Watching them was almost like someone putting everything I feel and deal with into words and pictures! Thank you! I hope you don't mind I will be sharing them! I sustained a mild TBI in 11/2008 from a horseback riding accident and have been dealing with PCS ever since! Thanks for your resources at the end as well as sharing your experience and helping others like myself feel not so alone!

    All the best!

  • @mdomey You're welcome! Hearing responses like yours are very gratifying. I've been trying to expand on the video by writing a book with the help of my sister-in-law. I think we're about 75% done, and a publisher is interested in it. I'll keep you posted on how that goes. It should be really helpful in a number of ways, not least of which is making fellow TBI survivors feel less alone, and providing strategies for a wide variety of situations we find ourselves in. Be well and stay strong.

  • Thanks for the video and Bible passages.

I can't see a doctor since I can't afford it, but hope the headache & diziness goes away soon.

  • @jettmanas You're welcome! I'm glad the video helped you in some way. I'm about 80% done with the book. I'll post progress the closer I get. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

  • Thank you so much. This is beautiful, and helpful. I am nine months post-concussion and can relate to so much of what you said.

  • Thank's for that. A friend recently suffered a brain injury in a motorcycle accident and you're film has given me some understanding of his condition. He looks great now though ;o) Made me laugh quite a lot as well. I even enjoyed the bible quotes and I am not at all religious.

Thank you so much for the incredible effort I know it took to put this together. We r 7 months (today in fact) into recovery from husbands severe TBI from car v motorcycle 15 feet from our driveway. We were gone 4 mos, 14.5 weeks at rehab in Denver; now home in tiny town, no more rehab; just weekly calls with neuro-psych from Denver. Hubs is progressing, "he looks great!". No, wouldn't have chosen this for either of us 28+ years into marriage; but with the Lord's help, we.stay.in.the.dat,

  • Wow, that was great!
