I hadn't even stepped in my front door when I hit speed dial for Nick. Despite the claims of various teen magazines, Nick was definitely more partial to calling a girl rather than texting her. I'd tried texting him. Every one was replied to by a phone call. I was fumbling with my keys when he picked up.
"Hey babe," he said flirtatiously.
My face broke into a tremendous smile. Gosh, I missed him.
"Hey hun," I replied.
"You home?" he asked. The dogs howling at me in the background answered the question for me.
"Does Elvis bark this much?" I asked.
"Not at all. He's quiet."
"Lucky," I giggled. "I have the loudest dogs in the world."
Nick laughed. "Send me a picture of them," he said.
"I will when I hang up," I replied.
We started talking about my flight and how much we missed each other. I'd been gone for a few hours and yet it felt like years. We'd just gotten to the part where we sit and listen to each other breathe when I got a call waiting. It was Dana.
"Hun, I gotta let you go," I said with some remorse. I didn't want to hang up.
"Ok, but call me tomorrow," he answered. He didn't have to tell me to call. I did anyway.
"Ahright babe, I love you more than anything," I whispered. Oh how I wanted to really be with him. I could taste his kiss.
"I love you more," he whispered back.
Tragically I had to hang up.
"Hey Danasaur," I answered. I had some resentment in my voice, as she just made me hang up.
"What the heck?" she yelled. "Where were you!? Your mom told me you were at Cindy's. I called her and she said she hadn't talked to you in weeks! What's going on?!"
I got scared. Would Nick be alright with me telling my best friend? I knew she could keep a secret, but I didn't know how she'd react. At least I wasn't getting cozy with Joe. She'd never speak to me again.
"Regan Marie answer me!" I'd never heard her so mad.
"Dane," I started, "I can't tell you right now. Well at least not over the phone. Is Marissa home? Can she drive you over here?"
There was some shouting in the background for a second. Dana was asking her older sister to drive her to my place. She came back on the line.
"Be there in 10."
She hung up.
10 minutes later she was at my door. I opened it and she stormed in. She plopped down on the couch and turned up the TV. I had CMT Pure on and Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" video was playing. She was too angry to even faun over Lucas Till's sexiness.
I sat down next to her.
"So what couldn't you tell me over the phone?" she said scornfully. I took the remote and turned the TV off.
"I was watching that," she growled.
I took out my phone and pulled up a picture of Nick kissing me. I set the phone on her lap. And waited.
"Holy.... Wait is this.... Ohh my.... Why didn't.... That's not.... Holy crap it is! That's Nick Jonas! That's you! Nick Jonas is kissing YOU!" She was screaming.
I laughed.
"Shh, shh! The neighbor's will hear. Yes, that is me and Nick. He gave me his phone number at the meet and greet. Asked me out later that night. I didn't want to tell you just in case. Not to mention it's a MAJOR secret. I mean if this got out we'd never be left alone. I'm talking paparazzi at school, Dana."
I watched her regain her composure.
"So then where were you? Did you elope to Vegas or something?"
I laughed again.
"No, he showed up in my driveway and said he had a concert in Nashville and he wanted me to come. I met the Carter Twins, Dana. Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley...."
She sat there in shock and awe (AN: "shock'n yall") as I told her about the past couple days, from the meet and greet to now. She was literally shaking when I told her about the swim that morning. It was a little surreal to me too. When I finished she was speechless.
"So you made out with Nick Jonas?!" she shouted.
"Yeah, pretty much," I replied.
"I don't believe you," she said. She was surprisingly skeptical for someone who 100% believed that the girl we met at the mall was an actress.
"I thought you might say that," I laughed. I opened my phone and hit speed dial #2. Nick's cell had replaced JB's SayNow, which had been knocked down to #3. Nick answered in seconds.
"Hey baby," he said. "I missed you."
"Ok," I replied, "please don't hate me for this but I told my best friend about us. She was mad that I didn't tell her where I was."
"Don't worry sweet thing, I don't mind. I wouldn't want you to lose a friend because of me."
"Aww, thanks, you're so sweet," I answered. "But there is a catch. She doesn't believe me."
"Put me on speaker," Nick said. "Her name's Dana, right?"
I hit speaker and said "you're on Nick."
"Hey Dana," he said. I could tell by the look on her face that she recognized his voice.
"Ohh my fricken Jonas!" she shouted. "It's really you!"
I let Dana freak for a minute. Then she calmed down just in time for Nick to say, "I'm sorry baby, I have to go. We have a show in an hour. Lockdown time."
We said our goodbyes and I hung up. Dana sat in shock.....
