this is a dumb question to ask but i dont know the difference between categories and forums..I barely made one right now but what are categories and forums?..please and thank you

I have a question. I use freefroums.o r g but it's the same thing for groups. I'm admin and do a lot of the forums stuff. my username isnt the admin color, its the mod color. I'mnot in the mod group, im in the admin group. whats wrong with this?
