my grandfather owned two D-17 "staggerwing" Beechcrafts. One was yellow like this one, the other was red. He wrecked his red on in 1974 in new Jersey. He tore the one wing off when a x-wind hit him. So, he sold the plane. It has since been rebuilt and resold, and is STILL active to this day. I wish he'd of hung onto it--as he only paid $10,000 for it in 1948. Now their worth half a million!
My uncle Ted Petras flew a Beechcraft Staggerwing, and Admiral Byrd to the South Pole in 1939. Can you imagine the trip in this craft!! It must have been fantastic, and also very scary!! Cheers!
Wonderful video, thank you.
