I don't just review popular games folks, I like to give more than just that back to the retro fans out there. Back in October '08, whilst disappointingly sober, I decided to check out random Spectrum titles. It was then I chanced upon a rare gem called 'Super Dustbin' by one Clive Smith. A wondrous, yet bewildering game, I was instantly hooked and set about reviewing his entire back catalog of ZX Spectrum software. Incredibly, I was to discover that Super Dustbin was the third title in a trilogy of Dustbin related games. Not only that, but Clive Smith also created the fast paced action game 'Grid Quest'. It had not only sound, but music and JOYSTICK Support! Whilst this didn't instantly elevate Clive to the second coming of Christ status, it surely cemented his place amongst the programming greats on the humble machine.

So sit back and enjoy the show. Five bonus points goes to whomever can first correctly identify all the music contained in the video. And let us all raise our glasses to a forgotten king of the ZX Spectrum scene. Clive Smith, thou shall not be forgotten in a hurry again!

  • What's the name of the song that starts playing in the background at 4:07?

    Btw, awesome review!

  • @yak2be UK Subs - Warhead

  • Systems reset? Fuck me! That guy was ahead of his time. I couldn't hear any music or commentary because the video has been muted for some reason. I never managed to get as far as H/ READ. That final game looks shit!

  • Shit? It's a classic. Better than anything Mildred ever requested!

  • I think you have to load a game such as Knightlore and rip it off. Only then can you mess about with the code.

  • It's better left as an enigma. Can you win? Does it do anything? Will Clive Smith smite you with his giant foot that comes out of the top of the screen? Who knows!

  • this game seams more than a little inspired by the arcade game "solar fox".

mind you the arcade could not support 3 different joystick designs.

  • Are you always ironic when sober?

  • This is even better than the Tommy Tank review!! :D :D.

  • Ah yes!, the Bill Withers Classic that was a top 10 single in 1978 and 1988!.

  • Those games are horrendous!

  • OMG I was having a collie withdrawal. Awesome to see a new video again, haha.

Even if the first games didn't play, it was oddly enjoyable.

  • Maaaan you got inside his head!

  • still <3 you :)
