I will show you how to clean a Transmission on a Traxxas Rustler VXL, this is the same for the Slash, Bandit and Stampede, and you can also use this method to clean other Transmissions on other cars, the video is a bit long, so I am going to give you some options:

1. Watch the entire 17:49min video

2. Click here to skip the part about what you need 2:28

3. Click here if you don't want to watch me take the Transmission out of the vehicle 5:12

4. Click here if you just want to see how I clean the Gears and Transmission Case, and don't want to see how I take the Case apart 8:25

5. Click here if you just want to see how I clean out the differential 10:54

6. Click here if you just want to watch me put the Case back together 12:38

Thanks For Watching

  • these metal gears alot better than the plastic?

  • @peroxidal Yes, they won't overheat and /or get stripped at high speeds like the plastic ones.

  • Thanks a lot for doing this man, I just did a 'heavy grease' pack on my diff, and this made it stress free and easy.

  • The best tutorial...

  • You can boil the trans case too, it makes the plastic stronger n clean

  • tooth brush and soap and your done wow its not that damn hard.

  • thanks for the info i was able to take my transmission apart and re-grease it...

  • Just wanted to thank you for an excellent tutorial! My seven-year-old son saved for months for a Traxxas Stampede. My husband and I know *nothing* about this stuff, and are fast becoming less ignorant so that we can keep the boy motoring ;-) Had to take the transmission apart as it was making a heck of a racket and now know what to do to clean and put it back. Thanks VERY much!!!

  • Just finished putting mine back together! Thanks so much for putting this together! I'll be at my local track soon to see how she runs! Thanks, again!

  • solvents are fine for the plastic just dont use them if you dont know what solvent will not melt the plastic denature alcohol is generally the safest... lint is fine for the transmission it wont hurt anything

  • how often you clean your transmission?

  • Thanks alot for the tutorial, i needed to take my transmission apart beacuase it sounded odd and refused to accelerate :C. And how can i get my pinion gear out if the head of the screw is like broken??

    Thanks and plz reply
