Daniel Aschwanden & Peter Stamer wanted to chase a 50 yuan bill through Shanghai, tracking it down with the help of a GPS device and -- with their own bodies. On May 21st, 2008, they tried to feed it into the Shanghai economy and to accompany the temporary owners of the marked bill, staying as close to it as possible. Chasing the money becomes a means to meet people and their individual stories; to a larger scale, tracking the marked bill also allows for statements about diversity or cohesion of social entities. The currency ‚Renminbi', Chinese for ‚people's money', takes on a different kind of (face) value: Where and, more importantly, who is the people using it?
