How To Quickly Navigate Column View

Pretty cool... I do wish Mac had a "breadcrumb" option like Windows Vista and Windows 7. I find that the fastest way to navigate - showing the folder list on the left, current folder contents on the right. You can navigate the Address bar the same way by typing the first couple letters of a foldername and hitting Tab. The Columns view is cool but often too much.

Hey, that's okay. Everybody's saying Quicksilver! :P However, I tried it out and it doesn't work for what I want. Great for you if it works for what you need, but, fro me, it doesn't quite cut it.

*Correction*
I meant backslash, not backspace, and also realized that what I really meant was forward slash. Which is of course more natural for anyone who's ever typed a URL by hand, or a question.
Sorry if my comment sounded crass or arrogant, but I truly believe that Quicksilver is by far the best tool for navigating the Mac, whether it be appending text, launching and switching apps, or yes, as a near-replacement of Finder.

QUICKSILVER!!!
Seriously dude. Quicksilver. Way faster than Finder for, um, well, everything. To get to 'something' in my Library folder, I invoke Quicksilver with Command-Space (presumably you open the Finder somehow), type LI, backspace, SO for 'something', and Return to open it in its own, full size, Finder window. Not to mention the other functionality. Spotlight is weak sauce.
That said, I do use Column view as well.

Nice one man, I usually use the mouse as my typing sucks, but cheers for the tips man
I'm really disappointed that explorer is more convenient for this type of fast folder navigation than Finder. [return is a better key for open than rename and I can do this kind of keyboard navigation from details view which is helpful for checking mod dates at a glance] I just assumed I wouldn't have a problem in OSX because they're supposed to be smart with GUI stuff.
Regardless, this video helped me a LOT. Thanks.

Supposedly, Path Finder (shareware I believe) is a good Explorer replacement for Mac.

I haven't used it though, so, I wouldn't know.

but spotlight still faster

However, Spotlight doesn't let you access system files. Also, if you're looking for a file and you don't know the name, then this can be faster.
