Zeitgeist: Addendum, attempts to locate the root causes of this pervasive social corruption, while offering a solution. so basically a bank only needs 10% in reserve to lend you money for a car loan or mortgage but the bank legally owns 100 % of it and we are paying interest on money that the bank didn't have in the first place...we should pay interest on the reserve amount not on the full loan!!!

@mythicronus of course not, because debt is money, meaning that if you have money then somebody owes somebody else money. So unless you give that money back, which you probably won't, that person might be forced into bankruptcy unless somebody gives him money by taking out a loan with interest. It's an endless cycle, an economy.

Couldn't the money supply be increased without debt by FDI, or injections into the economy from overseas? The whole net world monetary system would still be in debt, but wouldn't that atleast solve the debt for Americans in terms of paying it back from overseas injections?

I.E if a company borrows 2 billion from the banks at an interest rate of 5%p.a but makes 10 billion from it (all money profits made overseas) wouldn't that solve the debt since his profit was higher than the interest paid?
