In 2009, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute received funding from the ACE Charitable Foundation to conduct 10 pilot interviews with survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda who now live in the United States. In addition to funding this project, the ACE Charitable Foundation grant enabled the Institute to organize this event "Rwanda: Confronting a Painful Past," a panel discussion that took place at USC on September 2, 2010.
Introduction by Stephen D. Smith (USC Shoah Foundation Institute). Panelists: James Smith (Aegis Trust, Holocaust Memorial and Education Centre), Freddy Mutanguha (IBUKA), Mathilde Mukantabana (Consumnes River College, Friends of Rwanda), and Professor Beth Meyerowitz (USC). Moderated by Lyn Boyd-Judson (USC Levan Institute of Humanities and Ethics).
