Monday, July 11, marked the beginning of a two-week-long CRTC hearing on Internet metering. This is the result of Canadians signing our online petition, their engagement with Internet openness and affordability issues, and their ongoing efforts to spread the word.

OpenMedia.ca was at the hearing on behalf of all Canadians, telling the CRTC to stop the meter on Internet use (but with more legal jargon).

  • You are giving Telus a lot of praise. Very nice the way they cut the Internet speed by up to 60% without letting customers know. They still charge the same cost for what they call High Speed, rated at 1 Mbps upload when it runs at .0016 Mbps, as proven here on YouTube. They cut the speed in Dec. 2010.

  • Great speech. I would've preferred hearing about Shaw instead of Telus as Shaw has made an initiative to increase bandiwdth caps. It's not offered in my region so I can only assume that they've already implemented high bandwidth plans at the moment (as read on openmedia.ca). Personally, I plan on sticking with Teksavvy since they've been in this fight against telecom gouging since the start!

  • GREAT presentation, Steve!!!

  • Tyranny repeats itself, stop trying to control and monitor the Internet were not your slaves.

  • Were not your slaves stop trying to meter and control the Internet. Tyranny repeats itself.

  • That sounds good, can't wait to hear more.
