Superintendent Susan Castillo of the State of Oregon was the featured speaker at the Latino Leaders Luncheon Series™ on May 16, 2007.
Superintendent Castillo was first elected in 2002 and began her second term in January of 2007 representing more than half-million students in over 1,200 public schools. While in office, Superintendent Castillo has worked diligently to improve education in the state by implementing measures of accountability, literally promotion and community involvement. Her work and passion have served to improve middle schools and high schools as they yield steady growth in reading and math performance moving the State of Oregon one step closer in closing the achievement gap.
