The thing that threatens human race towards world government is USA.
This country tries to split many existing countries. It torn apart USSR, to many countries. And now USA is supporting seperatists in China, Russia, Middle eastern countries. Also, USA continues to attack other nations, with various sorts of reasons. This political and militaristic aggression is the biggest threat towards peace and evolution.

That ignorant corrupt bastard finally realized he destroyed the only hopes of billions of poor, exploited, and oppressed people around the world to restore ultimate western imperial power. He should be executed, then he'll really be sorry.

Did he think that the economy would go to shit? Did he forsee the millions dead off of hunger, the millions more who go homeless? Did he want the country to be sold to the US? Of course he did, he did the worst thing for the country and instead of easing it out, just pulled it out of socialism. Where does he live now? The states. A true coward.

Gorvy is in FACT to BLAME for the severe COLAPSAL of the union. He was bought, sold to USA. The WALL should have NEVER been torn either. Furthermore, WARSAW_PACT was dismantled. 3 eternal mistake by GORVY who can not live with his conscience.
AntiDefm,
With all due respect (and I am not being sarcastic there), how did you come up with the video title 'Gorbachev, Regret? 17 Years Too Late!'? Listen to the CNN report. The closest? At 6:17 or so, there is three seconds where Gorbachev is translated as saying "and the people certainly supported that..". Supported what? How can I know he was not being taken out of context? At no other stage have I ever heard Gorbachev say that he regretted his actions - before or since this video.

@LifeIsTheGreatest Good point! I have to admit that this is not a well-made video.
To my understanding from various reports, to this day, Gorbachev definitely doesn't regret to bring "democracy" to Soviet, but he did regret the Soviet got dissolved. I welcome to hear any different opinion than this.
How the Soviet got dissolved is an interesting and important historical event, especially in constrast with China that got Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989 and the economic achievement followed.

My understanding. Early on as Secretary-General, he went out into the community. All he heard was "things can't go on like this". Journalists, farmers, factories, retailers, academics, everyone saying the same thing. He therefore brought in Perestroika (freeing markets to some extent) and Glasnost (more freedom to the press). This caused a chain reaction which led to the dissolution.
He thinks (+ me too) that communism is good. I think Marx's poor mistake was writing it down.

@LifeIsTheGreatest At that time China was also having difficulties in the middle of economic growth, China didn't invite Americans to fix their economy, China didn't believe the "democracy" is the solution to the economic or social problems. China was also experiencing the same destabilization activities from US and West (such as Tiananmen Square "massacre", Dalai Lama Nobel Prize, both in 1989), but China didn't get dissolved as the US/West wished.
Gorbachev's mistake is obvious.

I confess that I do not know much about China. I agree that 1989 was a crossroads year for China but blaming the West for the Tiananmen Square massacre is a mistake. The West has done a lot but I, for one, do not think it could control Chinese tanks in Beijing. I think China is the one which made the mistake by crushing dissent within its students.
Gorbachev may be disappointed but I don't care about Russia. I care about people in Russia - and Gorbachev listened. Good for both.

@LifeIsTheGreatest Without the so-called "bloody oppression" of Tiananmen Square, China would be just like any of these ex-Soviet countries in East Europe or Central Asia. There is no economic growth that is the best since the economic data have been kept in human history.
You thought the same thing if happened in Capital Hill, Us won't use "tanks" to oppress the demonstration?! Have you ever heard the "Bonus March"?! Kent State shootings during the anti-Veitnam War period?!
