Casting and Cast Handstands

The best and easier to achieve technique (of legs together hstand) is the casting up through the arching back, especially for a taller gymnast. How it works: moving shoulders forward, casting legs as fast as possible, arching as a bridge (a learning stage only), pulling up to the hstand. Pros: fast to learn, easier to execute, less conditioning. When it is perfected, then the arch is skipped, or masked. Useful for errors correction: if shoulders forward too much, or not enough power of cast.

What causes kids who are strong and flexible to bend their knees getting into the straddle postion, but then remain with straight legs when they reach the straddle postion? Is technique the issue?

3/4 of it is flexibility. =(
