I like how the flute player just can't resist taking a swallow of his fresh pint during the set.

@ewetoob100 i got taught to do that if i got lost. have a drink and look like you meant to stop, then join in the song on the repeat - its a trick that comes in very handy!

@alistaircassidy I know what you mean, but I think it like the tune as a polka as well. In fact I might give it a try at the session this Monday.

Standing in about the same place...2006. I was brave...enough to ask if anyone had CD's. An endearing smile from the famous fiddler of Ireland, Charlie Lennon, told me where and gave me the name of his "latest" CD "Time for a Tune". (daughter barely visible here and accomplished in her own right) My favorite memory of Ireland. I suggest you order it. I bought a different one also. Thanks so much for posting this!

Farewell to Whiskey is old. Predates the American Civil War and was a popular fife and drum tune at the time...found in several manuals of that era.

i love that place was there before sad i couldnt understand my own irish language when the people talked ..when i was up there the locals spell it an spideal
Great musicians they may be but the first tune is "Farewell to Whiskey" by Niel Gow, or at least it was before it was butchered to turn it into some diddly polka! The tune is meant to be a slow air (no arguments please!!) - and you can tell Charlie Lennon that if you know him underpainting!!
Thanks to 'Ceolachan' on "the session dot org" who has identified the other 2 tunes as "The Dark Girl Dressed in Blue" and "The Killavil Postman".

I don't know Mr. Lennon personally!
but you know, there was a group of German tourists there who actually requested a Polka from these musicians...maybe this was a response? Either way, I remain impressed by this incredible performance (and the whole session) - butchery and all.
