An Akadinda Lesson

Christian Carver shows Mark Holdaway a riff on the huge Akadinda, a traditional Ugandan marimba, at ILAM, the International Library of African Music, at Grahamstown, South Africa.

The akadinda also has a smaller cousin, the amadinda. The notes are the same, there are just fewer on them.

This instrument plays on a pentatonic scale with equally spaced intervals (the interval between adjacent notes is a whole step plus forty cents).
