The speaker over simplifies the so called Placebo effect. He seems to imply that if we give the 30m HIV/Aids sufferers a blue sugar pill then at least 15m will be cured. Furthermore it is a non sequitur to arrive at mind over matter from brain plasticity. For another, and more scientific, take on the Placebo Effect see the experiment by Asbjørn Hróbjartsson, M.D., and Peter C. Gøtzsche, M.D in the N Engl J Med 2001; 344:1594-1602.

@llanfair567 That's wonderful that the tumour has gone. I believe it is always wise to use the mind in combination with the best treatment and lifestyle interventions we can get. I like the idea of an integrated approach.

When I had cancer I tried exactly what David says - healing my body with my mind. Result - the tumour kept growing and I nearly died. When I had chemo the tumour went. So I dont believe it works with cancer. BUT, the chemo damaged my bone marrow and I am using my mind to heal that. For example, 3 months ago my red count was a low 8.9, now its 10.6 and rising. So my experience is it wont work with camcer, but will witho other conditions (eg. Aplastic Anaemia that I have).

if our minds can heal our body, our thoughts can eliminate something in our bodys, is it credible that perhaps we thought the illness there in the first place?? without consciously realising it. complaining or not living life to the full, could it be our body's natural way of alerting us to the fact that all is not well and we need to change in order to move forward?? perhaps not. i'm not sure but it is an interesting one to think about...

Thank you for sharing! Being a doctor I am so glad to see that there is an increasingly interest and focus on how our minds can impact our physical body. Keep up the good work;)
fantastic video! It's like listening to my own beliefs, but in a wonderful accent!
