Mexican Institute of Sound (or MIS) is the moniker for Mexico City's Camilo Lara, the head of a major record label by day and a DJ/Producer by night. Lara began his musical career by sending his friends an annual Christmas compilation of the years best tracks and unreleased MIS tracks. This hobby led Lara to collaborate on remixes under the name Mexican Institute of Sound for bands and friends like Placebo, Le Hammond Inferno, Gecko Turner, and Babasónicos.

MIS is part of a movement within Mexico that incorporates traditional latin sounds with electronica, folk, hip hop, and anything else that inspires him. As Mexican Institute of Sound, Lara has released three albums: Méjico Máxico (2006), Piñata (2007), and Soy Sauce (2009). While early MIS songs combined vintage samples into instrumental tracks, Soy Sauce differs from its predecessors by featuring almost entirely original songs recorded with a live band and vocals.
