So much of what we experience thru life is a gamble of one sort or another. Being involved in that continuous gamble requires dedication, commitment, care and co-operation. That is the so called ante of this song. Its a tough play, but the gamble gets a lot easier when you have and share the love and help of family, friends, and universal strangers. This event is just one of those gambles I was involved in so many years ago. At the time it was a powerful, drawn out social struggle. Now, it has become scenery. And the beat goes on.

HEADS OR TAILS copyright chuck picklesimer 2009

Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. Old never ending bet
In this gamble we keep living, hoping it aint over yet.
Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. This game we love to win,
But the ante isnt easy til the love comes walking in.

I was singing in a coffee house in old South Carolina.
Had a day job as a sergeant on a local Air Force base.
I was young and without knowledge of the ways of the world
Or the follies, complications, of a so far human race.

Some Feds. Came to that coffee house flashing badge and gun
With a warrant speculating this is where dope dealings done.
Searching pockets, purse, and person, high and low for killer weed,
Hoping some might Monte Hall, lets make a deal to get set free.

Some Air Force prosecutors said I must co-operate,
Testify against some dealers or they will not hesitate
To throw me from the service with a blemish on my name
Or they would drop all charges if I play the snitcher game.

Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. Old never ending bet
In this gamble we keep living, hoping it aint over yet.
Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. This game we love to win,
But the ante isnt easy til the love comes walking in.

I sealed my fate in sixty-eight with a gamble that I tried.
I faced the prosecutors and I told a bare faced lie
Even though I had no knowledge of the dealings of that crew
I took the fifth and with it, threw away my Air Force blues.

Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. Old never ending bet
In this gamble we keep living, hoping it aint over yet.
Heads are heads (and) tails are tails. This game we love to win,
But the ante isnt easy til the love comes walking in.

  • Is that a Taylor 712ce??

  • hello emexlondaxe78, the guitar is an 816ce, which means it is a grand symphony model. i like martins for the mellow sound and nice low end. i like taylors for the user friendly necks. am hoping some day to try out a McPherson. i hear good things about them.

  • I like the song real well, but am not sure what you mean in the lyric about the ante

  • hi acemaster, if you read the introduction to the right under "more info" i think it will explain the "ante" mentioned in the song.

  • lol. you look like an older version of Billy Mays

  • I really am a fan of your songs and performing style Chuck. Great stuff. I bet your songs turn into immortal folk tunes... or should at least. this song is no different. I bet a lot of younger folks will be googling Monte Hall. :)
