Back in college, my friends got together for a road trip to the Malibu club to see a new band WLIR was featuring from Ireland called U-2. I had a cold and decided not to see them that night at a little dance club on the south shore. A year later U-2 was doing shows at Nassau Coliseum. Go figure!

I loved this station and listened from the first day through the end. I'm really disappointed at the racist comments here. You really missed the point of this music didn't you. It was all about diversity. If a Spanish radio replaced it, it was because that sells better. We all moved on, including these artists. Cherish the fun we had.

I once tried to scam the station by claiming to be Malibu Sue's brother Malibu Lou--didn't work, but they were cool about it. I MISS WLIR!!!!!!!!!

Please upload more. .. This is great . . . I remember WDRE during 1990 when I moved to NY from Ireland. This music was a home away from home.

I used to work the "dare-line" at WLIR in the 80s. I didn't get paid, but man, was that lots of fun. Did it with some of my high school buddies. And the DJs were cool too. Even put me on the air a few times to say "hi." Man, I miss LIR!

Believe me, I was angry when they first changed to new wave. I loved rock back then. I boycotted LIR for its 1st year after the change; but then I saw how much fun it was; and how much fun my friends were having with it. The clubs, the humor, the surprises, and the fun it was to search for the rare recordings. It was like a hunt of sorts. I got hooked by year #2. Nothing's been like it since. BTW, I have tapes of the "progrssive" LIR too. To me, they did no wrong either way.
