I am taking a break from talking about language to rant a little bit on the Copenhagen climate conference.

  • Steve, you don't buy that hopenchange? HAHA, you have to keep politics out of it, otherwise you're going to lose customers!!

  • Keeping developing countries from becoming developed countries by slowing down their economies would actually lead to even more births.

  • It won't keep growing, check out demographic transition on Wikipedia. Population development has 4 stages: a stage where people have a lot of children and where the mortality rate is high (pre-industrial society), a stage where advancements in technology lowers the mortality rate but where the birth rate is still high (developing country), a stage where access to education and higher wages lowers the birth rate and a final stage where the birth rate is lower than the death rate.

  • Agreed

  • The planet will survive. Whether or not humans survive is another story. If we look at the population trends in the "developed" world, I suspect that the population growth will slow down well before humans risk creating a disaster for themselves. In any case it is not in the power of humans or any other species to cause the planet to die.

  • Well spoken!

  • I believe that politicians who use a lot of taxpayers' money to sponsor bio-fuels and electric cars are economic illiterates. Since oil is limited, as the resources of oil get smaller and smaller, the price of oil will get higher until it will be so expensive that nobody will use it anymore. At that point, alternative sources will be cheaper. By using tax dollars to subsidize for these fuels they messed with the demand and caused food shortages in many third world countries.

  • It's all about one small group of extremely rich people getting together to decide how they can remain wealthier than everybody else. They want to push any blame away from themselves and onto the middle and lower classes. They will only reveal solutions from which they can profit.

  • As an Economics and Finance major, I understand the idea that Capital is Amoral. However, realistically there has to be a balance between the two economic theories. And why do they not go into energy saver technologies, its all about the money.

  • Actually we are going into an ice age in the next 30 years.
