The National Environment Management Authority, NEMA, is to enforce the cancellation of 100 land titles situated in wetlands in Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Jinja and Kumi Districts.
NEMA Managing Director Aryamanya Mugisha provided a list of land owners whose titles were cancelled to the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, where he told MPs that the directive to strip the landowners off their titles was issued through a ministerial policy committee chaired by the Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Prime Minister's Office, Janat Mukwaya.

  • The question needs to be asked: Did the owners of this land know that they purchased land in a prohibited area? If not, there must be a recourse, even if it means compensating them. The government is responsible for protecting its citizens from such fraudulent land deals. This is why they pay taxes!
