Mega Man 1 Special Weapons Only Challenge - Cut Man

Pardon the hesitation at the beginning. Indecision strikes again.

Second stage... Now that I have a nice, reliable weapon with which to tackle the other stages, I can start playing the game with relative normalcy. For this one, I decided I'd take on one of the two easy ones to get another weapon to my name with minimal losses. In my experience, that would leave me with Cut Man or Bomb Man. Now, I don't like to exploit elemental weakness unless I'm desperate, so that immediately eliminates Bomb Man since he's weak to my only weapon, Fire Storm. So I'm off to fight Cut Man.

Cut Man is nothing special, stage or boss, which really brings to question why I had so much trouble pacifist running it. I catch something of a lucky break throughout the whole stage, from item drops to successfully avoiding the endstage Big Eye without stopping. Unfortunately, that doesn't save me from completely overestimating Fire Storm's ammo count and I run out halfway into the boss fight. lrn2rationplz

Oh well, at least I more than made up for my losses against Fire Man. And now that I have a second weapon in Rolling Cutter, running out of weapons shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.

After watching this fight over again, I'm torn as to whether or not I should suicide against a boss if I deplete all my weapon energy and start again from scratch with a Buster run. It'll give me more incentive to be more careful with my ammo, but I'm not sure if it'll make for a good show. Then again, a lot of bosses in MM1 have monstrous attack power, so it shouldn't really be much of a problem to do that in a timely manner. What do you guys think?

As of this video, you failed the challenge. The point of said challenge is to ONLY use Robot Master weapons, which means using the default weapon, the buster, results in a failed run. Since you had to use it in this video, you failed the run. Thus, you should have to start over.

@WildToushi Yeah, all things considered, you're right. This shouldn't have counted. It was nine months ago as of this comment, though, so I guess what's done is done.

I guess next time I try something like this, I won't be so lenient on myself.

Why don't you like using the weaknesses? It's kind of a point in the game, too...

Also I don't agree with the suicides. Better to fight it until the end, even if it's with the weak Rock Buster.

True, true. But it makes it too easy. I wouldn't be taking challenges if I liked taking the easy way out. It takes the challenge out of the challenge.

Iceman's Ice Slasher can actually be pretty useful, if you want to save the other weapon's ammo for later. I mean, it'd suck to reach a major enemy and be left with Ice Slasher.

Obviously, you're gonna want to hit Ice Man last, due to his weapon, ya' know, not doing any damage to anyone but Fire Man. And don't suicide. It'd just look sloppy. And buster runs destroy the point of special weapons only.
