Big difference is he's not saying he got there by selling drugs and being a G. Plus, you can take it artistically, because even though these things are there, notice that Eric B. & Rakim seem to carry on like nothing is even happening. They ignore the women, play around in the office, and are wearing regular street clothes, while everyone else is in bikinis or cocktail dresses. As far as the gold chains, that was just the style. But notice it's one chain, not 8.

Actually I didn't grow up with this, I was born years after it was released. However, in my opinion it just sounds a lot better than techno-rap, and the rhymes are a lot more complex.

except that every rap nowadays is autotuned and theres no verses, its just a chorus, where is the rap? todays "rap" is dance music.

You still can't defend how women are portrayed in this video though. ALl the elements in this video has always been used to display power. Besides when you get out of the ghetto you dont want to act like you're still in there.

Rapping about selling drugs or gangsta rap in general is not problem for me as long as the rappers are being reporters of the bad shit that goes on in the ghetto, and not saying it to glorify violence etc. There's a difference.
