Interview with Daphne Izer, founder of Parents Against Tired Truckers, of Maine on the loss of her son in a truck crash and the importance of truck safety.
More regulations for trucks and truckers isnt the answer. You want safer roads then ALL drivers need to be required to drive right. Federal and independent studies have shown the majority of car/truck accidents are the car drivers fault. It's time car drivers are required to pass physicals, drug test, skills test and vehicle inspections as truckers and trucks are. That should reduce traffic in the US by at least 75%.
Oh, by the way, today the roads here in Dallas were a sheet of ice and were like an ice rink. I was on TX121 where everyone was going about 30mph and a trucker hauling compressed natural gas went blowing by doing about 60mph in the untouched lane. It was an Atmos Energy truck. The guy should lose his license for life driving that reckless with CNG.
There are a lot of truckers in my family and all agree 10 hours should be the max time behind the wheel with an 8 hour break. I have nothing against truckers. There are plenty of great ones out there but there is also a shit load of terrible ones who have no business behind the wheel. I see it on the road everyday. A big part of that is there are truck driving schools out there that can get you your CDL in two weeks or less. Getting a first time drivers license takes over 6 months. Traini
@warm2breeze You and dan should really wake up. this industry has been corrupt since the beginning. Think you have no over time pay for hours worked over 40. The job isn't classified under OSHA or the Department of Labor.... One other tid bit that all these truck drivers forget is if we would all actually Unite together We could change the industry to how we want it. Then again a group of truck drivers will never agree on anything so a strike is out of the question...just one failed system
@dan14922006 Oh and lets not forget dan you are a supper trucker...why you can drive 18 hours so gee you have to be clocking right around 1000 miles or so in a day after all that is only 50 mph and just about all tese bigger motored diesels can achieve a 60 mph average speed (even governed) so that puts you atleast up to 1100 miles per day. You're so full of it your sucking yourself. If you would pull your head out your behind you would also see that the industry could be made a lot better.
@dan14922006 Know what else doesn't add up...the whole 18 hour day. yea 24 hours in a day and you are driving 18. Don't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that leaves 6 hours to take a shower/eat/sleep/etc. so gee now we have you down to atleast where you only get 4 hours of sleep at night. Tell you what Dan maybe you should contact the guiness book of world records for the "Person that Functions with the Smallest amount of Sleep" or the "Biggest Liar" title.
@dan14922006 you don't care about your family or anyone elses either. It show's your lack of respect for yourself &others when you come on and talk smack and curse others out. It shows your integrity & stupidity and why society views truck drivers as a whole with a poor outlook. Then again with such "Prime" truck driver representation from you I see why the industry is looked down on.3 million safe miles, and you started in 2006...the math don't add up go tell a noob, they might believe you
@cq90stang dude i don't care about ur family 18 hours and being safe is possible i do it every day i've logged 3 million safe miles so i don't wanna hear ur shit suck it!!!
I'm the moron? Do you have any idea what YOU'VE done to MY industry? Screw you!!! You tell her Dan. She is one of those that only cares about HER little world and has no idea nor concern about how HER actions effect others. The new HOS has done NOTHING to help the fatigue of drivers in fact it's cause more fatigue and stress on the drivers but you wouldn't care about that would you because it doesn't fit into your simple little world!
