Eh? Nah man - I'm just telling her the story of Orestes, the Greek mythological figure. I'm not telling her how to interpret the song at all. I agree entirely; if everyone knew what every song was 'supposed' to mean, then it would be very difficult for people to have personal interpretations that mean a great deal to them... But Greek Mythology kicks ass, and it's an interesting story. What's wrong with telling the story?

It's actually pronounced 'Oresteez', I believe. It's from Greek mythology. OK long story short:

Orestes' father sacrificed his daughter to gain favour with the trade winds in the Trojan war. When he returned from the war, his wife (Orestes mother) murdered him. Orestes was in another city at the time, but when he returned a few years later, he murdered his mother in retribution for the murder of his father. Some say Orestes was not punished, others say he was murdered.
