International Day of Peace
Monday 21st September, 2009
To celebrate International Day of Peace, A Ray of Hope, UNESCO Youth Ambassador for the Culture of peace has organised three competitions.
Our thanks to Sara for the design and production of the video. The music, Put the Message is from our friend Brian Kennedy, who kindly joined with us in our first CD A Ray of Hope and Friends.
Snippets of photographs of World Heritage Sites have been used and unfortunately we do not know who the photographers are but we thank, and acknowledge them for their contribution, and hope that the use of them for this purpose is to their satisfaction.
Photographs of the children are from A Ray of Hopes global projects.
The competition, which will finish on 21st September, is just yet another medium for caring and sharing.
By entering a comment on YouTube you will be immediately entered into a free prize draw (please add your country of residence).
If you wish a competition slightly more challenging, then look at the World Heritage Sites on the video there are 6 and use the first 6 letters of their countries of location to spell out an international organisation. You may not need all of the countries or letters to determine the organisation. Do not enter the name of the organisation on YouTube but send directly to don@unesco.co.uk
The prizes will be large original Nepalese batiks. No matter where you are in the world we will attempt to deliver the item to you. One of last years winners lived in Brazil.
Your user name on YouTube will be your entry label and contact details can be determined on announcement of the winners. Similarly your email address will be your entry contact for the second competition. Winners will be notified on 22nd September. Although this is a form of celebration we still must adhere to a few rules. After what is deemed to be a reasonable length of time, if contact cannot be made with the winners we do reserve the right to award the prizes to the next most appropriate winner.
A third prize will be awarded to the comment that A Ray of Hope believes to be the closest to its ethos.
Enjoy
Don

  • Excellent video for a great cause ... we all want PEACE in the world.

Thank you Unesco for creating this wonderful video.

    Greetings

    Masha

  • Thank you Masha and best wishes from Northern Ireland

  • I have done nothing but take the praise of others........ but thank you anyway.

Naurally we all feel that we should, and if possible we should, change the world and its forces' correlations over night. But that is impossible. Yet we have to change it as soon as it is possible. Just to timescale events, allow me to mention the speech of Martin Luther King and the core of its message having its zenith with President Obama's election. No doubt, it was a long, long time for those who lived through it. But at humanity scale it was a tiny little fraction of our existence.(2)

  • But we can change the world - unfortunately many never try to. Thank you for your comments. every best wish Don

  • Love doesn't know borders, love can break all barriers and change human hearts.

Love lives inside all of us,no one is born hating another person, people learn to hate. They learn to hate, because nobody talks them about love.Love remains hidden within us, waiting for us to find it someday.

  • Beautiful Vibes, AWESOME Images,...yeah mon, this vid's the kind that should go VIRAL!!!! Spreadin' HOPE all over this beautiful blue planet,...thumbs up to ya UNESCO123 and thankin' our friend SOLE for the GREAT share! = )

  • We all have so many differences:religion,nationality,race,gender,height,weight,age,...but we are all people,as earth beings,we are one big family

God gave us this earth and this life.God makes His sun rise on people whether they are good or evil and He lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust.God gives life and only God can take it away.

What gives us the right to kill one another in a war,to decide who can live and who not?I wonder...

  • God gave us this Earth, this is our place, our home and this is the real power-to have this Earth for us and to live here, loving each other, loving everything around us.Do we need more?

  • God has created everything,we will say this to our children, and maybe they will ask:If God created us and everything beautiful from this earth and He has given us the power to rule this earth, why are we looking for power?God gave us the earth,we have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees,...Isn't enough?Isn't this our power? Why do people kill each other for power,if the only power that we must have is the power of love?

  • All the children are so innocent, they dream to live in a beautiful world,in love and peace.A child can see the beauty of this earth,a flower is a miracle,a leaf is another miracle;the sky is so beautiful, the sun,the moon, the stars,...everything is a miracle of God.A child can ask,why are the birds flying and who did all these things?

Because only a child can see the miracles of this world.Only a child knows that

someone has created this world and everything around us.
