Selected commercials from ABCs Liberty Weekend coverage July 3-4, 1986. All explicitly reference the Statue of Liberty's centennial, or involve lots of flags, commemorative coins, and other July Fourth symbolism. - 7-Eleven - "The New American" (I feel a little wrong being amused by the fact that they're acknowledging that there's a little truth to the stereotype)
- The Prudential (The company "salutes the Statue on her 100th birthday" and says it insured immigrants' dream when no one else would.
- Stroh Brewery Co. - "As the Statue lives on, so does the dream." (Sweeping aerial shots of the Statue of LIberty at sunset, set to John Lennon's "Imagine.")
- Liberty Coins from the U.S. Treasury (coin slowly rises to "America, the Beautiful")
- Van Heusen (From the "For a Man to Wear. And a Woman to Borrow." campaign. Includes a little girl celebrating "a very special birthday" by wearing her dad's very special shirt.)
- Texaco (A video montage set to a country-tinged version of "Stand Up for the Flag of America" shows "how the men and women of Texaco feel about our flag and freedom" - and is apparently based on an earlier ad. The voiceover is longtime pitchman Bob Hope, honored with the Medal of Liberty during the weekend's festivities)
- Wrangler (Shots of the Statue of Liberty are interspersed with footage of "legend in jeans" Willie Nelson performing "City of New Orleans," aka "Good mornin', America, how are ya?"
- Liberty Coins (A slightly more interesting version of the previous ad - but it can't hold a candle to the next one.)
- Plymouth - "The Pride is Back." (Almost wasn't included, but the statue shot plus oodles of flags pushed it over the top.)
- Liberty Coins (In 2050, we'll all have mini-planes and fly right up to the Statue of Liberty!)

@cotters1 btw i'm sure we can agree the america's land, people, culture and beer are f*cking awesome though
also, check out a couple books by Michael Scheuer (Chief of the CIA's Bin Laden Issue Station for 22 years), he sums the "terrorism" thing up quite nicely

@cotters1 im sure you're not dumb, just using it as an expression, i just don't buy the "terrorism against our way of life" thing. islamic terrorists just don't like our foreign policy in the middle east ex. support for repressive dictators like the House of Saud in Saudi Arabia and Mumbarak in Egypt, troops in holy lands, the pressure we put on governments to sell oil at "low" prices, and the Israel/Palestinian debacle.
And they use "terroism" to violate our civil liberties daily.

I really don't care what you think, you have your views & I have mine, however there is no need for you to be so dam rude about it but I guess it's easy to play the tough guy from behind a keyboard eh? and I dumb am I? I guess my role as a corporate trainer & me studying a double degree in birth-12 education supports that idea! & as I said about me having my views, I don't see that I am brain washed just 'cos I have a love for your Country & the freedom it gives to the world!
