For decades, opium production has been dropping in Thailand, with widespread eradication drives and campaigns to encourage farmers to plant other crops.

Meanwhile, the Golden Triangle of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand appear to be building an increasingly lucrative trade in methamphetamines.

With Thailand's government launching a new campaign 'to free the country from drugs', 101 East asks if Thailand can ever win the war against the drug barons.

The war in afghanistan is about two things: the oil-pipeline and the opium.

Since the beginning of the war, the opium-production only has increased. The poppie-seads are registrated and pattented in the US.

if the USA really wanted opium, they could just grow it on theri own soil. Opium will grow everywhere in the united states. It makes no sense to invade for opium, it does for oil but not opium.

They have all the land they need to grow it. They could just throw up some secret growing locations.

Prescot Bush was the biggest opium-trader at his time.

War on drugs means higher prices, that's all.

AFganistan may be about oil pipelines, but i assure its not opium. do you know howm uch the U.S. spends on the war on drugs? or how much effort the U.s has put into? it wud not be worth it for them to create such a sshirade. the rerason why we do dont in and burn down all the vilalges in afganistan making poppies cuz how wud that look to the world photographs of us troosp burning villages like in vietnam? it wud be bad pr thats why we havent compete destroyed all the opium fields of afganistan
