and Weak Animal Welfare Standards Headed for Vote by USDA Panel

Cornucopia, WI—The Cornucopia Institute, one of the nation's leading organic industry watchdogs, is urging members of the USDA's National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), in formal testimony, to vote to preserve the integrity of organic food and farming at its upcoming meeting in Savannah, Georgia.

Some of the hot button issues on the agenda, including using artificial preservatives and genetically modified ingredients, would seem Orwellian to many longtime organic farmers and consumers. The forecasted dustup will be debated by a USDA panel, deeply divided between corporate agribusiness representatives and organic advocates.

honestly, I believe the junk added to foods is Exactly why I am now invaded with so many cancers. As a youth, we had gardens, and livestock for our foods, as both parents worked, we gardened less and less. I know EXACTLY what it is to grow foods organically, and I am not sure about commercially organic grown either! I would rather see it grown, as well as the process used for selling.

Southernpatriot Sounds like you are having trouble with vaccines more than food additives. Everyone I know who was raised on farm eggs and/or crops/gardens has a real tolerance for all the shit food we eat today. I am talking about people 50 to 60 years old who are healthier than me at 34. The difference is they didn't get all the vaccines that I got. Can you imagine how the next generation will be with their vaccines doubling what I got? Just a thought. BTW natural cancer cure=immune system

@organicsuperman The USDA gave Whole Foods two options or else they would not be able to be in the negotiations any more. The options are:

1) To allow Monsanto to have full control to do as they want to, completely unregulated.

2) To allow Monsanto to do what they want with GM food, but implement some regulation and attempt to control genetically modified organisms (GMO) so that it can co-exist with non-GMO foods.

@organicsuperman There has been a lot of confusion about what is going on with Monsanto corporation and Whole Foods Market. There are plenty of Whole Foods “haters” out there that are claiming that the company has been bought out by Monsanto (not true, the companies are publicly traded so you can see for yourself) and that Whole Foods Market has agreed to use Monsanto’s genetically modified foods.

@organicsuperman Whole Foods' recent admission proves how successful the biotech companies have been in their efforts to replace foods unadulterated by hormones with Frankenfoods. The fact that one of the best-known purveyors of natural foods has decided to throw in the towel rather than holding the line against biotech foods means consumers will have fewer places to go in their quest to buy non-genetically engineered foods.

@organicsuperman Whole Foods does take steps to avoid GMO ingredients, but due to the massive use of genetically engineered ingredients in the food supply, it is currently impossible to avoid GMOs in conventional or "natural" products. As a result, many food products sold at Whole Foods do, in fact, contain genetically engineered ingredients, even when Whole Foods would prefer they didn't.

Oh man. I'm at my 11th month of eating as much organic food as I can. I cannot allow myself to eat anything that is synthetic and must avoid any malicious food additive or chemical at all costs. Hearing this makes me want to rip an elitist's head mainly responsible for this straight off! Hell, now I can't even trust Horizion anymore with their milk since I found out they were owned by Deans Foods!? Yikes! What can I do now..starve myself? At least I've got a pendant to energize food and drinks.
