We see it every Friday during our evening commute. A stream of vehicles choking the freeway, headed out to the Mojave Desert or the Colorado River for some well-earned weekend stress relief.

The fun varies, from camping to dirt-bike riding to water-skiing. But the vehicle that invariably gets tasked with hauling the corresponding equipment is a full-size pickup truck. You know, like the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, 2009 Ford F-150 or 2009 Toyota Tundra.

Sure, we talk about the virtues of the minivan as a family hauler, and there are many. But the minivan stands no chance against a looming 25-foot camping trailer. And SUVs are easily flummoxed by motocross bikes and the need to carry their smelly gas cans (or anything that's remotely dirty, actually) in the vehicle's cargo area.

There's nothing like a pickup, with its big bin in back that doesn't care what you toss into it. And the truck is sure to be around long after the full-frame SUV falls completely out of favor and descends into the three-row car-based sensibility that is the crossover.

Don't get me wrong, i love american cars and trucks and all, but when it comes to reliability and value, the foreign cars got that in a bag. But it's too late cuz as you can see only the american car companies are going down the drain. Not one foreign car manufacture is going bankrupt. America needs to get it together if they want to survive against the foreign manufactures cuz the competition is fierce.

@toyota4life94 if toyota is so great like you claim them to be..then why doesnt any police agency use any kind of toyota at all?..why doesnt toyota make ambulance chasis?..or firetrucks?..seems to me all of the important vehicles are american and not toyota..why is that ?..i tell you like i tell everyone else..if you ever needed a cop or ambulance or fire truck..not one of them will show up at your house in a toyota ....NOT ONE ..you can thank an american truck to cover your ass

@toyota4life94 hey if toyota is so great..ask them how is their dump truck market doing to the big 3?...or how is that diesel motor treating toyota owners today?...lets face it kid..all of the hard , back braking work is done with the big 3's trucks...toyota [ONLY] makes 1 full size pick up..yet the big 3 have a full line of trucks and vans for most any job..how well is that new truck toyota has doing against the ford raptor?..oh..sorry.they dont make anything like that at all

@toyota4life94 here is something i bet you dont know..yes ford is in mexico ..hell..ford is in alot of other country's..ford is global just like toyota..in fact ford has been in other country's long before toyota even went into business ..i know you tried to make a smart ass comment with that , but ford is in mexico since at least the 1970's ..and most of everything built in mexico ,,stays in mexico , so before you make yourself look bad ..do some research ..ok???
