@MercC23k OMG How true! I won't hold purses behind my bar for that reason. I don't have time to keep giving it you and taking it back. I actually did this to a chick once, years ago. I threw her purse right in the trash because 1)she was a bitch every time she came in the bar and 2) the night before she had me hold it and came back so many times for it. Then when I left it on the bar because I was busy, she started yelling about 'if shit's missing YOU'RE going to replace it' NO...I'M NOT!

@geels I work at two different bars. In one I make $45.00 a shift plus tips the other I make $7.00 an hour plus tips. That averages out pretty much to what krillin876 said, the going rate is about $5.00 an hour.

@bschafer1984 Art form? Ha! Get off your high horse. It's a normal job requiring skills just like every other normal job does. And you overdramatize how tough your job is, as if you have to sacrifice so much extra for it that other jobs doesn't require.

It's a normal job, it's an honest way to make a living as you said. Nothing more, nothing less.

@geels a bartender in a private bar/ restaurant usually gets paid by "shift" usually between 25-50 $usd. In a corporate place you get paid per hour at the min wage which is about $5 per hour. In USA restaurants are exempt from min wage because it is assumed that you will make tips

I work in a cocktail lounge in Australia. do make tips but nothing compared to what I made as a waiter in Canada. How much per hour do US cocktail bartenders generally make?
