It was the first game of the 1955 World Series between the Dodgers and the Yankees. Trailing 4-6 at the top of the eighth inning with two outs, Jackie Robinson risks 270 feet of progress on the base paths with a daring steal of home, beating Whitey Ford's pitch to the plate. Years later catcher Yogi Berra still maintained Robinson was out.

The beautiful thing about this call is that the "safe" vs "out" argument completely transcends race. That is, it transcends race until a bunch of YouTubers decide to make a baseballing argument about race again - because you really can't tell at 24 frames per second in grainy black & white.

The point is this - the call became more important than the color of his skin. Therefore baseball = hope for humanity, ergo you are a terrible human being if you hate baseball. /science

Wait, now I'm the asshole because I said the call transcended race - based on the YouTube comments I was reading on Jackie Robinson day? How on earth did that make my comment about race? Did you even read what I wrote?

Go troll something else. Your eight comments on this one video are bordering on obsessive anyway.

The batter should've swung to get catcher's interference.

It looked too close to call for me. Tie goes to the runner.

it's an unwritten rule. Not all umps go by it, but it is usually tie goes to the runner.

true, but the rule says a runner is out if the base is tagged BEFORE a runner is able to touch it. since a tie wouldn't be tagging BEFORE the runner then it's only logical that the runner would be safe in the case of a tie

He's safe, get over it. Yogi doesn't even put the glove in front of the plate. So its clearer than most people think.
