yeah but running away from it isn't really necessary, if we put the money and effort that you suggested putting into getting off the planet into fixing our ways and weaning ourselves off of these things that we think are essential. people survived for thousands of years before we managed to extract all of these "essential" oils.

What would happen to the climate? Since there are no cars and other pollutants would the carbon levels of the earth go down? Thus cooling the earth? With these climate changes, what sort of weather would we expect? Also with an influx of vegetation wouldn't the atmosphere become more oxygenated leading to changes within the animals like in the past with huge creatures? Obviously an evolutionary change like this would take a long time.

It will be long. At least 10 - 1000 years for food shortage, at least over 100,000 years left of water. And ifs won't change the Earth. Nothing will. Humans are too stupid at this point in evolution.
