This video shows a few of the basic "games" used at Arme Antica to help develop ability and context as opposed to the "studying of technique". Various games are used to break linear, "technique"-oriented mentalities, and are very helpful in developing context for students: like the Distance Game is very useful, especially in weapons practice, to break the habit of using the weapon to "block" incoming attacks instead of using it to immediately counterattack, for example, by developing spatial body awareness and the defensive capabilities that arise from it.

I have seen documentaries that say in real life the average fight between 2 swordsmen only lasted seconds, a bit like in Braveheart.

Yes, exactly so. The kind of exercises I show in this video are just that, drills and exercises, they are used to develop sensitivity and fluidity in the body mechanic in constantly changing conditions, unlike the usual linearity and predictability of technique study.
If you were to use that sensitivity, it would just be something that's done in the moment, quickly, to seize or create a window of opportunity to end the fight.

I can see why people love medieval weapons so much now - the greatest champion is playful creativity - I'm grateful to be in a time and place where these weapons usually mean boys/girls at play, not death.

that would be more of a sway, which im up for but it seems to be still quite a slow movement. Of course its better then trying to do a backwards limbo i suppose. Idk I can't actually do any of these "games" where I live. Just have mock battles with family :) as well as lots of Mount and Blade, youtube, and of course really terriblemovies about scottish BS. LALALLALALALLA..

I train more from an Asian and Filipino art, but I like your methodology. It crosses over in whatever weapon you're using.
