If you haven't seen part 1 of 2, go back and watch it first. Yes, I'm serious - a lot of part 2 won't make sense if you haven't seen part 1 yet.

After finishing the wall, I sanded down all of the inside log ends. Yes - every.....single....one of them. I didn't put anything on to seal them afterwards because I want the logs to breathe.

The next step (which I don't have photos of) was using a special cement sealer on the floor, then painting it a light yellow to counteract the grey of the cement in the walls.

A year or so later, I went back and painted the walls a low-gloss grey, to cut down on the cement dust and add a bit more brightness to the building.

And then last year, I had to remove the roof covering totally and replace it with crushed stone. You'll see the story of that in my six videos, Replacing Our Cottage Roof. I also have three walking-tour videos of the cottage that I've uploaded to YouTube, so enjoy!

The background music during the video is from my first album, Medieval Cottage Songs - which I actually recorded at the cottage. How cool is that?

The first composition is Green Leaves Dancing Outside My Window; the second is Killaloe. I hope you enjoy them.

Compositions from all three of my albums can be purchased through CDBaby.com and most on-line downloading services (iTunes, Napster, Weed, etc.) Also, the guitars I use were all made by myself.

  • Nice work on house, and vids, and music. I'm trying to do this myself, and I am dealing with the land purchase phase- a real pain in the ass. I want to build a couple of round houses and a hexagonal tower out of grey fieldstone, which in CO is kind of a misnomer, in that the rocks come from the mountains...

  • Thanks for sharing!! Glad you enjoyed it.
